This Social Media Manager will support the execution of Volunteers of America’s social media strategy to create brand awareness and online engagement; generate in-bound website traffic; ensure consistency in our online voice; and help find new opportunities to use social media to achieve organizational goals.
 
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
  • Immerse yourself in the social media world as Volunteers of America’s ambassador/social host
    • Respond to and engage all inquiries across social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
    • Seek out and join conversations about our brand
    • Seek answers from and help to empower internal experts to engage in topics that leverage their expertise
    • Keep our “look and feel” fresh across multiple platforms
  • Manage our social media editorial content calendar and organize multiple internal staff experts and external sources to generate content on a daily basis for all social media channels and blog(s)
  • Be the eyes and ears of the Volunteers of America brand and message
  • Experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social media activities
  • Support integrated marketing strategy and campaigns
  • Work with the communications team to ensure social media tools are kept up to date and relevant
  • Monitor trends in the social media space and make recommendations on ways to increase the use of social media across the organization
  • Create monthly reports on usage and trends to be analyzed by digital strategy team and External affairs executive vice president for impact in overall marketing efforts
  • Provide input and guidance to Volunteers of America senior management and subject matter experts on the use of social media
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in marketing, communications, web development, IT, English or related field
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area preferred
  • Demonstrable experience in leveraging social media to drive traffic or achieve tangible goals, online marketing or related experience. Understanding of and/or experience with nonprofit organizations is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Strong project management and/or organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadline
  • Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data to make recommendations on content and tactics
  • Team player, with the confidence to guide other departments when necessary and to be an internal champion for social media education and adoption
  • Excellent creative writing skills, with the ability to reach multiple audiences in direct and relevant fashion
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization, including keyword research
  • Experience in creating graphics and web marketing assets such as badges, infographics and background art is a plus
  • Knowledge of or experience with HTML/CSS or a web content management system (CMS) is a plus
  • Ability to communicate results to management and to work in a fast-paced environment.
